Michael F. Teitler
Michael Teitler founded the firm with his late father, Samuel Teitler, in 1963, and now leads the firm with his son John Teitler, who became a partner in 1996.
Michael Teitler represents wealthy individuals and families in personal legal matters, focusing on divorce and estate issues, and in matters and controversies involving their business and commercial and financial interests. He has extensive experience advising clients on these and other complex financial issues. He places great emphasis on negotiated resolutions of disputes whenever possible and achieves successful outcomes through the application of the full resources of the firm when recourse to litigation proves to be necessary.
A Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, with long-term service on City and State bar association committees, Michael was a principal draftsman of New York’s Health Care Proxy statute. He also litigates and has lectured extensively on incapacity issues; his detailed living will forms are widely published and adopted by the profession.
In 2000 Michael served as the Administrator, New York County Independent Judicial Selection Panel. He is a 1955 graduate of Brooklyn Law School.
